Purpose

   Promote integrated water resources management in Moldova and involve communities in practical activities to improve water quality of international waters

Main activities

• Organization of biological monitoring trainings for schools located in the Basin of Ichel River (01.27.2015 – 02.06.2015)
• Creation of 4 Centers for Voluntary Monitoring in Calarasi, Straseni, Ialoveni and Anenii Noi towns (in Bic river basin)
• Organization of Bic Basin Council meetings on a quarterly basis
• Organization of public consultations on safe irrigation in Anenii Noi district in all the 5 villages situated along Bic river
• Organization of public consultation on the arrangement of springs in Calarasi and Straseni districts
• Carrying out cleaning campaigns with the Ministry of Environment and private companies along Bic river
• Carrying out planting campaign along 6 km of Bic river to plant 5000 trees on both banks of Bic river
• Arrangement of 3 springs in Temeleuti village of Calarasi district to increase water volume in Bic river
• Building a reservoir in Calfa village with spring water for domestic animals to prevent watering the animals with highly polluted water from Bic river
• Building a septic tank at the secondary school of Calfa village of Anenii Noi district to prevent leakage of waste waters into Bic river
• Re-issuing the guide on biological monitoring in 5000 copies and dissemination of it in almost 500 schools
• Holding a training for mayors in Ichel river basin on integrated water resources management

Results

• All schools from Ichel river basin involved in biological monitoring of the river, necessary equipment distributed to 40 schools
• 4 Centers for Voluntary Monitoring in Calarasi, Straseni, Ialoveni and Anenii Noi towns created
• Bic Basin Council meetings organized quarterly; 4 meetings held
• Policy adopted by Anenii Noi district to prevent irrigation from Bic river
• Policy adopted by Calarasi and Straseni districts on + 3 springs arranged every year for Bic river
• Cleaning campaigns held with the Ministry of Environment and private companies along Bic river, 1400 plastic bags of 160 l volume each collected with waste
• Planting campaign organized along 6 km of Bic river to plant 5000 trees on both banks of the river, 700 students participated from Anenii Noi town and neighboring villages
• 3 springs arranged in Temeleuti village of Calarasi district
