What can we do, day by day, to ensure the Dniester remains alive and clean for the future? What does a healthy Dniester look like, with banks teeming with life and birds finding a safe haven here?
On Dniester River Day, in Talmaza, Ștefan Vodă district, children learned about the river not from textbooks, but directly from nature—observing birds in their natural habitat, exploring biodiversity, and discovering how vital the balance of ecosystems along the Dniester's banks truly is.
The event, supported by UNDP and Sweden, brought together children, youth, volunteers, and activists, proving that environmental education begins with curiosity and shared experiences.
Through interactive workshops and educational activities, the young participants built nests from natural materials, discussed environmental protection, and discovered, in a simple and natural way, how precious water is for communities and daily life.
From traditional costume parades, folk dances, and craft exhibitions to local cuisine, interactive workshops, and activities for children—everything showcased the cultural and tourism potential of the Dniester region.
UNDP and Sweden support the Republic of Moldova in strengthening modern water resource management systems, building institutional capacities, and promoting environmental education, so that future generations understand that water is one of the most important resources we possess.
The Dniester unites us. And protecting it begins with each of us. More images from the event can be accessed here.
